Dads shop....
A lot of those HIGH tech masks were built in dads High tech shop(his kitchen table)
You should have seen the the Hockey stick LAB( our basement) with NO...and i mean no tools- I think dad could have been one of those "Quest for Fire" types of inventors. Honestly had he taken it seriously and had some tools he would have invented a Bunch more really great stuff!

Re: The SAGA of the Ken Dryden pretzel
Thank you for all your comments Mike,
keep 'em coming. I never imagined how far I would get with this investigation, but now at least I can move on to the next project:
Who made Gilles Villemure's mask and who made Ed Giacomin's first mask??

Yeah and please take a picture of your basement (the spot where he layed up the masks) and the table where he made the masks if you have it.

OK, I'm now watching ebay for the category: "kitchen tables". :)
Seriously, this is great reading for a vintage geek like me (and others here I'm sure). Thanks Mike.

Re: Dads shop....
Its actually amazing...the historical value of the materials that we Tossed out because the NHL hall of fame wanted nothing to do with what we offered them for FREE.
Dads SHED had Masks..and molds....Hockey sticks that you could not even imagine...( i still have great ideas for the next generation of Hockey sticks but the world is not ready for them!)
We ended up giving a pile of stuff to the MCCOrd museum as mcgill was dada University. The real missing link is the famous GOUL goalie mask with the big dent in the forehead- That one is the true classic- The test ,,,Either my Brother, or the MCCOrd have it....

PS: I took a bunch of Digital pictures but they didnt come out....I guess im not qualified as a photographer

Re: The SAGA of the Ken Dryden pretzel
Mike, have you ever seen Bernie Parent's Ghostmask?? It's the one he wore in Philadelphia after the pretzel mask, and afterwards he went to a 3/4 Fibro in Toronto, while Jacques Plante was playing there too.
By clicking on this link you'll see the mask I mean:
http://com5.runboard.com/bvintagegoaliemaskdiscussionpage.fmaskgallery.t250
Any chance this was also one of your father's creations? It reminds me a lot of Jacques Plante's first mask in 1959.
Since your father made Paren't pretzel (very presumably) - doesn't it follow that he would make Bernie's next mask as well? - the very rarely photographed "GHOST MASK".

Re: The SAGA of the Ken Dryden pretzel
Im curious how Burchmore and Weatherbee ended up with similar unwieldy designs for a pretzel style facemask?Did the two ever cross paths, and is there an undiscovered rivalry back among the mothballs?Given that Jacques Plante wore a full facemask first, Im curious why the pretzel ever developed---------other than goalies bitching about being too hot--------screw the protection.
