My first Plug at mask making.

I have used what little spare time I have these days to get to this point in my "first mask attempt". The plaster plug is just about ready for fiber-glassing. I made a full size mock up out of clay and then used the plaster bandages again to make another mold for a plaster plug. My early clay attempts kept cracking because of flawed clay, so they never saw reality or fiberglass for that matter.

Once I find some more time and a good space heater I can get back to the shop and work on the glass. It is getting colder these days and my shop lacks heat.

Hello Target 3
I'm going to offer a bit of unsolicited advice; for starting out makng masks you're probably better off sticking to a one part mold process; just use a plug. The plug should consist of the bust of your head and the shape of the mask being made by building up with clay. Lay up your glass over the plug. Stay small don't build up too much. Your plug looks long to me

Thanks for the advice. I had to throw out all the clay that I had used, it kept cracking before I could get to it with the glass. That is why I made a plaster plug of the clay shape, or close to the shape that I want. As for looking long, ya it does seem that way but I am well over 6' and have a long neck, like a girraffe. So I am hoping to give a litte throat coverage with the mask.

Any advice is definetly welcome. I will keep updating this post as I move along with the project.

If you want it to cover your neck, the "beak" must stick out further. From the look of your plug, you won't be able to move your head down without the bottom of the mask hitting your neck or chest. From the tip of the nose to the bottom of the mask, the line should be at least parallel to the table that your plug is sitting on.

I figured as much, I am in the process of filling that area, I didn't have enough plaster when I filled it the first time. So, I will just fill that area back to the board and that will make sure it covers as far as the back of my ears.
