Board Members,Let's Create a Poster
Gentleman
This is my first week as a member.WOW!I feel ready to come out of my hibernation after many years, sort of like a Rip Van Watson. I just want to paint, paint, paint.I hope I can find the time start bact at it soon. Anyway,I have a 52" wide printer and quite competent in Photoshop image and design composition and would like to contribute to this board.
I propose with all the great masks some own, or whom have acquaintances who own unique vintage masks pull our resources together and create a poster for board members only. THIS IS NOT A
PROFIT MAKING VENTURE.We will all vote on the pictures and masks to be selected and vote for the final design. There are however costs involved with paper,Ink and shipping.
The cost to print a 24"x36" poster would be in the $10 range.
If this sounds like a good idea we can proceed with suggestions. Can anybody foresee any problems with this idea because I do not want to get in over my head?
Look forward to hearing your input.
Cheers
Jim

Re: Board Members,Let's Create a Poster
sounds good! There are quite a few artists here (I hate those guys!) who have made some great works. Nelson White did one mask-collage in particualr that is really unique. But the idea of using photos is certainly intriguing. I vote for every Capitals goalie who wore paint.
I am an artist myself (oh the irony!) and dabbled recently with mask painting using brushes rather than spray. I honed my art skills growing up by drawing goalies. The Ron Low watercolor that occassionaly appears atop the discussion board is one of mine. Anyway, welcome to the gang. Look forward to seeing the project move forward.

Interesting Algoon, I like the Low.when you do your brush work on masks what type of paint and clear coat would you use. are they utilitarian or collectors? I'm starting to get really tired of that of that slick airbrushed look. Can you try and post some pics of your choices please.
Cheers

Re: Board Members,Let's Create a Poster
here are links to past posts for the three masks I've managed to do. The Uncle Sam was the first, an old ProMasque I had sitting around. The second is a mask I did for Nelson White on an old ITECH clunker he had. He offered it up for me to practice on. The last one, a Dali mask, was a SportsMask for Gary Smith. All three are just acryllics out of the tube, applied with a brush. The Uncle Sam and Dali masks were clear-coated with spray can stuff and looked decent for do-it-yourself materials, but was uneven in spots. The ITECH was sent to Mike Myers in Worcester who did an amazing professional clear-coating job.

Painting "freehand" can be challenging and frustrating. The ITECH especially has deep forhead ridges that made things difficult. ALso, I usually work with oils so the rapid drying of acryllics made things a bit tough for me.

I sincerely like those. They are definitely unique and are works of art.
Here are couple of mine I have completed recently. Notice the difference in our styles, I think you are on to something. I'd like to see some more of your art. Also my web site if you care to browse.

The thighpad should be the centrepiece.
