To Ridge or not to Ridge?
My first plugs, What are the Pros and Cons of casting your plugs with ridges as opposed to adding ridges during the lay up process?

Re: To Ridge or not to Ridge?
adding a ridge w/ fiberglass would make for a slightly heavier mask but the inside would be smooth
what material do you use to add ridges onto the plug ?
post some pics of your masks and welcome to the board Mesa

Re: To Ridge or not to Ridge?
The plug shown with the ridges was poured with plaster of paris. That mold was a smaller plaster mold of my face with modeling clay built up around it.
If I were to add ridges to a smooth mold, and plan to lay up on top of that, I would use modeling clay.
My question is, is modeling clay sufficient for this?
I look forward to warmer weather so I can start laying up.
Thanks Simo

Re: To Ridge or not to Ridge?
If your going to use clay for that it better be HARD. I'd use plaster paris and then file it to a point so it is hard. Neumbs said he lays squares of fiberglass then dremils them pointy. That sounds like a great idea. One thing I have notice is some mask makers are secretive about "The Ridge" process. Layinf up on clay is OK for ridgless mask as long as you don't press too hard.
