I also got ,a few years ago, an autographed photo of Bill "Goldie" Goldthorpe and a bobblehead of him. He's was the inspiration for Ogie Ogilthorpe in Slap Shot. He was at a ball game for our local "Border Cats" ball team here in Thunder Bay. The photo has him in his saints uniform with a ref beside him and the bobblehead has him wearing a syracuse bulldogs uniform.nondisclosed_email@example.com (reignoferror)Sat, 12 Jun 2010 19:47:21 +0000 Re: Book on the history of the WHAhttps://bvintagegoaliemaskdiscussionpage.runboard.com/p236292,from=rss#post236292https://bvintagegoaliemaskdiscussionpage.runboard.com/p236292,from=rss#post236292got the book in the mail. pretty darn cool. the guy is a math professor at Arizona State here in the US but it reads really nicely. Pretty much all the pics are head shots from media guides and manuals. It was proofread and final edited by the guy who just wrote the Racers book. Just taking it for a quick spin the text is concise and well written. Curious to see how much rubber Cheevers faced and from whom. It is definitely much updated from revision 6 which I thumbed through at a memorabilia show here. Worth the $23 USD direct from the guy, especialy considering that older copies are selling on ebay for $10 more.nondisclosed_email@example.com (drplywood)Fri, 18 Apr 2008 13:49:12 +0000 Re: Book on the history of the WHAhttps://bvintagegoaliemaskdiscussionpage.runboard.com/p236088,from=rss#post236088https://bvintagegoaliemaskdiscussionpage.runboard.com/p236088,from=rss#post236088Cool find. Think the one you just bought is like a manuscript without photos. Saw the introduction to it and it is in typewriter format, unlike a book. Looks interesting nonetheless. Another good WHA book is "The Rebel League" by Ed Willes and it is worthwhile. There is a new book out on the Indianapolis Racers called "Red, White & Blues" by Timothy Gassen , but have yet to see it. nondisclosed_email@example.com (MrMask99 brother)Fri, 11 Apr 2008 15:14:28 +0000 Re: Book on the history of the WHAhttps://bvintagegoaliemaskdiscussionpage.runboard.com/p236044,from=rss#post236044https://bvintagegoaliemaskdiscussionpage.runboard.com/p236044,from=rss#post236044thanks Irish. supposedly this version has more pictures? who knows of what. the one that is really supposed to be great is the book written by the former Whalers beat writer in the mid 90s and long out of print. only time I found it on ebay it went for a good bit over a $100.nondisclosed_email@example.com (drplywood)Wed, 09 Apr 2008 21:59:23 +0000 Re: Book on the history of the WHAhttps://bvintagegoaliemaskdiscussionpage.runboard.com/p236024,from=rss#post236024https://bvintagegoaliemaskdiscussionpage.runboard.com/p236024,from=rss#post236024Received this from my co-workers while initially in the hospital as a gift (they know I am a hockey nut). Not a bad book. Very similar to the NHL Records book. Great if you want access to the complete stats of the WHA's existance.nondisclosed_email@example.com (irishgoalie)Tue, 08 Apr 2008 17:52:06 +0000 Book on the history of the WHAhttps://bvintagegoaliemaskdiscussionpage.runboard.com/p235944,from=rss#post235944https://bvintagegoaliemaskdiscussionpage.runboard.com/p235944,from=rss#post235944anybody ever read this? http://www.xalerpress.com/ The Complete Historical and Statistical Reference to the World Hockey Association, 1972-1979 (8th Ed) by Scott Surgent ISBN: 0-9644774-5-9 ISBN-13: 978-0-9644774-5-2 I just bought the latest edition online after being outbid on an older one a little while back on ye old ebay.
