BROWN blocker repalm project

This was my Sunday morning project last week. I got the horsehide palm from [sign in to see URL] for about $[sign in to see URL]. I used a regular sewing needle, a roll of waxed dental floss, and a pair of pliers to push the needle through the leather. It took about 2 1/2 hours and now this old blocker is ready for another 5 years.

Nice work neums. Love that Brown blocker. The catcher is my favourite.

While you're sewing, I have a pair of pants that are 2" too long...

Here is a train wreck of a JB11 blocker I picked up at a yard sale last year. Looks like something Kelly Hrudey used to wear.

I've been working on it in my spare time. So far I've conditioned all of the leather, built a new thumb assembly, repaired the finger protector, installed a new palm, and sewed on a new label I got from BROWN. Just have to sew the face back on and bind it.

Mink oil works well. It darkens the tan leather a little bit until it dries. Takes about a day to dry.

The ability to fix this stuff is probably the reason why you can't get goalie equipment in leather any more. And I bet that knackered black JB blocker is now just as serviceable as any brand new jenpro blocker and will be around long after the useful life of a modern blocker has passed.

Good stuff.
