Mask rescue
I am currently preparing a trashed combo for painting. I thought this would be a neat place to try and document the process. And I'd love feedback, questions, suggestions as I go along. The primer is drying as we speak and hopefully I'll be able to get some underpaint soon. It'll be painted by brush and in a classical sort of manner based on the American Regionalist school (I hope!). Here's hoping for an educational and interesting process!

Re: Mask rescue
Mask has been sanded (thoroughly!) and primed with auto paint primer. While it looks as if I painted my hand to the mask, the artist escaped unharmed!

Re: Mask rescue
no filler, just a messed up surface. the mask was "rescued" from a junk bin so the provance is greatly unknown. It looked to me like a few things had happened;
1) someone painted the mask with a teal-color paint and then spray painted over it with white before the teal had time to dry, thus causing some serious reaction as the teal tried to dry from under the white.
2)there were severe scratches along the sides of the chin where someone had gouged at it. Perhaps from a mis-fitting cage.
3) it looked in some places like it was actaully singed or burned.
I sanded what I could but since I am used to some surface when I paint (or "tooth" if you will) I wasn't too worried about getting a pristine mask. The rough areas will grab the paint off the brush and create some nice surfaces. I'll send some pics in afew days with an update. The first layers of paint have been applied.

Re: Mask rescue
Here are the latest images of the "rescue mask". A first composition was abandoned and painted over but things appear back on track. More bodies will appear later and the upper part of the mask will eventually be fans, the old chicken wire, etc. Any suggestions or comments are more than welcome.
