"It's only cheating if you get caught" He worked on his pads all the time, especially when the league would come around and check before the playoffs. Then he would repack his pads that afternoon before the playoff game.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Guardian 1)Fri, 07 Oct 2011 12:59:29 +0000 Re: Skorodenski Skull Mask Infohttps://bvintagegoaliemaskdiscussionpage.runboard.com/p261586,from=rss#post261586https://bvintagegoaliemaskdiscussionpage.runboard.com/p261586,from=rss#post261586Yes, I was familiar with that modification of his. I thought he modified his arm guard at the wrist, misunderstood you sorry. Tony was the master of cheating the rules. Wasn’t he the guy who sewed his pants inseams together too? I guess in time the ortho or plastic that was added turned into what was later called a cheater on the glove hand.It was cut and molded to fit in the wrist slot and over the fat part of the wrist and thumb.Tony also had it curved or curled at the top to deflect pucks that the normal part of the glove may not totally stop or deflect. You will find many shots of Tony near the end of his career with this modification. I should have at least one shot in all the photos of this example. Now that you know about Tony's glove you will notice it right away. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Guardian 1)Fri, 07 Oct 2011 09:59:32 +0000 Re: Skorodenski Skull Mask Infohttps://bvintagegoaliemaskdiscussionpage.runboard.com/p261538,from=rss#post261538https://bvintagegoaliemaskdiscussionpage.runboard.com/p261538,from=rss#post261538I figured he would be all over the Orthoplast and felt, I’m surprised he used foam rubber. What did he and you do to your gloves? Pictures? Do you remember if Tony started with a brand name chest and arm pad, or was the base set custom made as well. He had extra pieces overlapping his rib cage as well. Blocker arm was doctored up. I even did my version of his catching glove protection on the wrist, mine was not as glaring but it worked and was effective.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Guardian 1)Thu, 06 Oct 2011 11:02:01 +0000 Re: Skorodenski Skull Mask Infohttps://bvintagegoaliemaskdiscussionpage.runboard.com/p261529,from=rss#post261529https://bvintagegoaliemaskdiscussionpage.runboard.com/p261529,from=rss#post261529Speaking of chest and arms guards, what on Earth did Tony O’s look like? For my birthday before the finals my team bought me a plastic mask that I wore in the city finals. It was the 1st time playing in an indoor rink best 2 out of 3. We lost the 1st game I cried and cried and said to play the other goalie next game because it was my fault we lost. The coach finally talked me into playing and we won the next 2. Our jerseys were so bad that the community next to us that we knocked out on the way gave us brand new football jerseys to wear for the finals.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Guardian 1)Fri, 23 Sep 2011 20:16:39 +0000 Re: Skorodenski Skull Mask Infohttps://bvintagegoaliemaskdiscussionpage.runboard.com/p261150,from=rss#post261150https://bvintagegoaliemaskdiscussionpage.runboard.com/p261150,from=rss#post261150Wow the Turk Broda... Pat Verbeek breakaway slap shot from between the circles. I think I was knocked out for a while. Ended up with my 1st shutout in the Chicago Stadium. Cut in Fredericton N.B slap shot from the top of the circle as I was coming out to challenge. The team Dr. that sewed me up was good friends with my in laws. Cut in Wpg Police vs RCMP game. I had just changed teams because the game was getting out of hand, the puck came out to the slot as a player was skating into it and blam. my white jersey was red. It was like I had my face in the shower. Yes I was worried about my eye for a while because of the blood in my contact. Started on a team when I was 8, 1st goalie instructor was Turk Broda 1968. Played goal 8-9 out 10-11 second in scoring with 52 goals top goal scorer was Jim Dobson with 117.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Guardian 1)Fri, 23 Sep 2011 19:47:26 +0000 Re: Skorodenski Skull Mask Infohttps://bvintagegoaliemaskdiscussionpage.runboard.com/p261140,from=rss#post261140https://bvintagegoaliemaskdiscussionpage.runboard.com/p261140,from=rss#post261140What is the worst, or were there any interesting getting hit in the face stories you remember? I'm not really sure how it came about with Harrison. The new mask was supposed to be like the old skull I was wearing. Same wholes, same skull paint job. My original skull's wholes were made using a combination design from photos of Cheevers and Vachon's masks. That's how I decided on the look. It was to look in all aspects like my old skull mask. The original skull paint job was modeled from an X-ray that Norm Guziak had and he had full creative license to do the job. The Harrison mask is winning over George Lights mask 14 stitches to 0 on the old skull. That's how I remember it anyway. Maybe to many pucks to the head.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Guardian 1)Fri, 23 Sep 2011 15:16:33 +0000
