THANK YOU from one Crazy Goalie! :-)

To say it is much appreciated for accepting me into this group is a complete understatement! So here is a little about me, or maybe it's a lot... Here it goes...

As my Post Signature states... I am a Bionic Goalie! This refers to the fact that I have a revolutionary heart pump implanted in my chest that does the job that a widow maker heart attack damaged 5 years ago when I was 47 years old. It is called an LVAD (pronounced EL-VAD) a Left Ventricular Assist Device. Without the pump, I would surely be dead by now. I have 2 batteries that powers the pump that I wear in a law enforcement holster-shirt (see photos below also is a photo of me with the batteries etc, un-holstered and a pair of POWERTEK PADS that I'm looking to buy and "in-love with") that keeps the batteries from moving around and a controller that I wear around my waist that monitors the pump.

I've played and coached hockey/goaltending since i can remember, but as life's trade-offs would have it, was told I can never play ice hockey again while the pump was implanted within me. A heart transplant would allow me to play ice hockey again, but i do not want a heart transplant and will roll with this pump for the rest of my life. I've done many things with the pump that I shouldn't have... Played lacrosse... Baseball even rode horses... All against my doctors wishes HOWEVER off the record they all told me they are proud of me because the pump was built so people could live... Not sit around. As I look at it, I am a test pilot :-)

Lastly on the pump subject, I am the first person with a heart pump to drive cross country... NY to California and back! The risk here is there aren't hospitals across the US that can take care of my pump should a problem exist. So I drove cross country once! To raise the stakes of holding a record of a heart pump recipient to drive cross country, I did it Twice! Then I made the record even harder to reach by driving cross country/round trip a third time :-) in a 9 month period in 2014. Why does this all relate to being a goalie???

It's because they always say GOALIES ARE CRAZY... and I am happy to admit I am crazy! And I am a Goalie.

So... I may not play ice hockey again, but I will Definitely suit up and play Street or deck hockey... Not sure about roller hockey as I still risk falling hard... With ice hockey, the puck is dangerous for me as it may hit me in sensitive spots etc. so street and Deck hockey is a go for me :-)

Where does that leave me now? Almost all my equipment was stolen in a move I made before my widow maker heart attack, including my beloved masks. So now, which I believe is a good thing, I have to rebuild myself from the ground up as a goalie, while keeping co$ts down. And making a mask(s) would be full circle/fulfilling for me.

So again, thank you for accepting me into this group, which I've been watching as a guest for a long time now. I hope I can repay y'all for the info and inspiration... MOTIVATION you have already given to me!

CHEERS!

Josh

PS Mike Palmateer is my favorite of favorites (I have a lot) goaltenders... emoticon

Plante... Parent are up there too.

Welcome aboard Josh. I also have been through the battle for life as I had a heart attack last February then suffered congestive heart failure while in the hospital [thank goodness I was there] leading to by-pass surgery and an extended visit in hospitals. The aftermath of my condition has left many long term disabilities from when my heart stopped. I now have problems which I cant even pronounce. The only thing that I can totally say now is I try to enjoy everyday that comes putting priorities in perspective. If I miss out on a mask or jersey I just try to shrug it off as before it was a tragedy to miss out on something. My friend after a brush like this you sure appreciate the smaller things in life.
Be well my friend and oh yes to everyone else that wonders, I didn't see a bright light at the end of the tunnel so thank goodness it just was not my time and I tried this a couple times. LOL
There a GREAT bunch of guys here which many I am proud to call my friends. Robb

LOL, yeah Robb there are many things that I can't pronounce either and am still living life full steam despite the new norm. I agree with you and would like to add: Stressing over what we can't control is senseless where stressing over what I can control is acceptable :-)

AND I will play in Goal again and will , slowly but surely make a mask! :-)

Thanks!

I knew there was something about you that spoke to me. once the fire has been lit, it can't go out. You aren't going to let anything stop you.

That being said- wow. It's great that you are pushing limits. People like you are who we learn from.

I think you will be patrolling the crease quicker than you think.

Thanks Bunnyman666 I am humbled but believe me we all learn from each other... For me, being in this group is so inspiring/motivating.

I long to be part of a team again... to feel my wrist snap back by the glove swallowing a high velocity puck. :-) To make a waffle SAVE, I mean blocker save :-). To feel my leg pads kick out and absorb a traveling puck... No rebounds :-) and lastly take a shot square into my own custom fiberglass mask heheheheheheheh...

Well I'm gathering/buying my supplies. Plotting my strategy, but even though my mask making hasn't even beginning yet, I've picked my style of mask,,, Lindbergh and made a rough mock copy of what I want to paint on it. The photo is from a photo from this site, I apologize that I forgot who made it...

It will be a variation of a group Logo that I am affiliated with.

AGAIN :-) this is a very rough mock-up...

I don't want to double post things, but here is a link to a thread that I am posting on for my Vintage Mask Build...

Here you can see a thread that was already started by another member that I woke up and adding my detailed progress...

However, I will occasionally double post a photo of my progress here as I consider this thread that I created my "Locker Room" :-)! These are my supplies for my head cast...

Just an update...

As it turned out, I'm thoroughly behind a schedule I thought I could follow. However I am enjoying working on this mini-me mask as I am becoming acclimated to the clay, shaping and the tools used.

In the first photo I made a small Head Cast of a small bust... music composer named Haydn.

Second photo is the bust.

The third photo is my clay build up of the front half of my interpretation of the Lindbergh mask.

I know when I get to the full size mask, I will be able to apply what I've learned on this small sculpture onto the life size mask.

As you can see ( I hope you can LOL) it is my take on the Lindbergh mask.

Cheers!
