I wonder how many masks he owned. Every time I think I've seen them all a new one pops up. That top picture looks like Gilbert's mask with stitches added. I wonder if someone was messing around with him?

Re: Gerry Cheevers

The Gilbert like mask is a weird one, the straps are in keeping with an older Higgins, but the construction of the mask is a newer one with the holes for the forehead tee and full sized holes at that. The nose and mouth are later styled too, as is the overall shape of the mask.

The little photo is an even later mask with the new style straps and the multi hole ear holes.

The glove under the first mask is one of the Boston black Coopers that Gerry wore his last few seasons in Boston adding even more mystery to the mask.

I wonder if the training staff wanted Gerry in a bigger mask and had one of Gilberts marked with stitches to see if it would pass muster?

Cheezie's face is round and lacks contours. That mask looks like Gilbert's or even Bill Mckenzie.

In thinking about the Gilbert like mask it occurred to me that Boston’s locker room had wooden lockers not metal ones. I wonder if the photo is from a display (like at the New England Sports Museum) rather than of Gerry's real locker?

It looks like it's behind glass so it's probably just a display, and with a replica while we're at it - but - who knows?

Gilbert's all-white Boston Higgins mask did not have 3 holes at the ears - his later mask with the stars was in the HHOF and still had the stars -no stitches- on it.

which would leave the Higgins mask he wore in Minnesota, butthe shape of the eyes and the diameter of the holes on the forehead don't match.

He also had stars on the non-ear hole mask. Gilbert had a lot of masks it seems.
