Mr Hockey has died!
It was with incredible sadness that I learned of the passing of Gordie Howe this morning. I knew he was suffering from dementia the last five years and he was advancing in years, but some news is just such a punch to the guts.
I only saw him play late in his carrier, but even as an older man he played effortlessly. Growing up in the Boston area I was bless to listen to the Bruin’s color man and former line mate of Howe, Ted Lindsey. He would always tell the best stories of Howe, Sawchuck, and the rest of the powerhouse Detroit Red Wings of the 50’s and 60’s.
We talk about it all the time, once these seniors are gone all that remains are stories, now is the time to hear those stories first hand.
As my often used signature says, "We’re all stories in the end; just make mine a good one”. Howe was a living legend, known as Mr. Hockey and as close to a superman as has ever lived!
--- "I'll be a story in your head, but that's OK. We're all stories in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?
