If for nothing else, I would have liked to own it so as to preserve it as it was originally: i.e. It would have prevented someone with larger means to take the name and possibly bastardize it by doing what the 21st Century does so well to everything and anything without any regard to tradition and the like ... FiBroSporT 2.0 etc etc.nondisclosed_email@example.com (MONTREALER)Wed, 19 Jun 2013 20:05:19 +0000 Re: Who owns the rights to Fibrosport?https://bvintagegoaliemaskdiscussionpage.runboard.com/p270719,from=rss#post270719https://bvintagegoaliemaskdiscussionpage.runboard.com/p270719,from=rss#post270719  Fullright . Buying or otherwise acquiring the name or the trademark of a company doesnt mean the purchaser owns the business itself. In this instance, the purchaser could put "Fibrosport" on shoe laces or whatever product he or she wishes. The trademark or name is like any other asset of a company; it is just one asset. Whomever owns the production facilities, the masks specs, etc would have to sell them under a different name. I would expect that there would be a legal battle if the purchaser of only the name/trademark "Fibrosport" tried to sell masks. The business formerly known as Fibrosport would still have the rights to manufacture and sell its product; ie, the masks we associate with Jacques Plante. Bottom line: it depends on what the current owner of "Fibrosport" bought or acquired when it took ownership of the name/trademark.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Fullright)Wed, 12 Jun 2013 16:13:45 +0000 Re: Who owns the rights to Fibrosport?https://bvintagegoaliemaskdiscussionpage.runboard.com/p7672,from=rss#post7672https://bvintagegoaliemaskdiscussionpage.runboard.com/p7672,from=rss#post7672Yea you're right and in many respects Don's product is even better than the old Fibro's but.... But this kind of thing happens all the time in many industries, and it can be done properly if the new owner cares. I know in the guitar business (also sacred territory for many), some companies buy a name and slap it on some cheap $99 guitar. Others do it right, doing the right things to ressurect a brand and bringing back to the high stature it deserves, building product to a very high standard, sometimes bringing back ex-employees as consultants, etc. In a lot of cases it's better than a dead brand. Not that I think this will happen in the case of Fibrosport.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Bren31)Fri, 30 Sep 2005 08:33:30 +0000 Re: Who owns the rights to Fibrosport?https://bvintagegoaliemaskdiscussionpage.runboard.com/p7670,from=rss#post7670https://bvintagegoaliemaskdiscussionpage.runboard.com/p7670,from=rss#post7670quote:Bren31 wrote: The whole topic of trademark rights is difficult to figure out. Oh, I'm sure he somehow legaly owns the right to the name ...but "what's in a name" - (English teacher in me) when i read that Don was doing this i felt it was kind of an audacious blasphemy. This was JACQUES PLANTE'S factory ....sacred ground for me.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Maskman)Fri, 30 Sep 2005 03:48:33 +0000 Re: Who owns the rights to Fibrosport?https://bvintagegoaliemaskdiscussionpage.runboard.com/p7669,from=rss#post7669https://bvintagegoaliemaskdiscussionpage.runboard.com/p7669,from=rss#post7669The whole topic of trademark rights is difficult to figure out.
