Re: Skorodenski Skull Mask Info
Sadly I have heard too many stories like the one above - even with pro goalies.
Anyway if any equipment builder should be in the Hall it would have to be Pop Kenesky and for masks let's not forget Birchmore and Higgins.
The fact that their equipment(especially Harrison's) has graced the HHOF perhaps is enough of a tribute and hommage.

"no rolls of wire by the cage jig"
Did he make his own cages? I always thought he used HM30s on his early masks anyway.

Re: Skorodenski Skull Mask Info
He was making his own cages in 1987 when I first visited his shop. He would cut, bend and weld a batch and bring them downtown to the University of Toronto Engineering Faculty to have them tested. At least that's what Greg told me.
I can verify that I saw completed cages stacked beside his jig and on at least one occasion he was welding one on the jig while I was there.

Re: Skorodenski Skull Mask Info
Got to handle the real mask. Had the opportunity to meet Mr. Skorodenski today at the Scotia Proam and handle the real mask.
he pull the two mask out of the equipment bag, and i can beleive my eyes.
He mentioned the mask cost $100 and the paint job was another $100. The mask was build like a tank, very thick, much thicker than 1/8. He also signed a replica mask for me. It was a great day.

Re: Skorodenski Skull Mask Info
The event was Scotiabank Pro-Am Edmonton in support of the Gordie & Colleen Howe Fund for Alzheimer’s. This year was in Leduc, Alberta. Mr. Ron Low was there too.

Re: Skorodenski Skull Mask Info
Did he use a back plate on the original skull when he played?
